“Turkish Language Day” Event Held in Jordan

Yunus Emre Institute and Yarmouk University jointly organized an event titled “Turkish Language Day”.

The event, hosted by Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan, was organized to help university students connect with Turkish language and culture.

The event, organized by the Yarmouk University’s Faculty of Literature as part of the language week, was attended by Ensar Fırat, Coordinator of Yunus Emre Institute in Amman, Yarmouk University Rector Islam Masad, as well as academics and students.

In his opening speech, Rector Masad expressed his gratitude to the Yunus Emre Institute for their support of the Turkish Language Department.

The program featured Turkish poetry and music performances prepared by the students, along with cultural activities showcasing Turkish cuisine.

Hassan Zuyut, Head of the Department of Semitic and Oriental Languages at Yarmouk University, stated that continuous interaction with native speakers of the target language enhances listening and speaking skills, as well as comprehension of everyday expressions, phrases, and terminology.

Head of the Department Zuyut noted that in collaboration with the Yunus Emre Institute and the Education Counselor’s Office of the Turkish Embassy in Amman, they are working to increase the number of Turkish-speaking faculty members and to establish numerous memorandums of understanding and academic exchange agreements with Turkish departments at universities in Türkiye under the Erasmus Plus program.

Ensar Fırat, Coordinator of Yunus Emre Institute in Amman, stated that such events contribute to the recognition of the Turkish language and culture and inform students about the scholarships and programs offered by universities in Türkiye.
